Research is my rock, design makes it roll
My university career started in 2006 at the University of Calgary majoring in finance. After three years I learned a lot, but decided a business degree was not right for me. In 2010 I applied to the Alberta College of Art + Design and started back in first year as a graphic design student. This was cut short after I took a summer internship and was offered a job designing watches.
In 2012 I was approached to design watches for Celine Dion Quintessential Timepieces (CDQT). I started out creating catalogues, website layouts, and presentations for distributors. I then began designing watches and bands as well as photographing and photoshopping them for packaging, print, and web. This included photoshopping watches onto Celine Dion's wrist (pretty neat!).
In 2014 Drone Precision Timepieces was created as a collaboration with Shaquille O'Neal and the company that started CDQT. I had full artistic control on this project and started with hand sketches of the watches and their packaging. After digitally rendering the sketches and making changes according to the company and Shaquille's taste, the watches were molded and created. I also designed Drone's print and social media advertisements, catalogue, website, logo, and branding.
After Drone and CDQT wound down, I went back to school to finish my degree. In 2020 I completed a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communications from the Alberta University of the Arts, (formerly the Alberta College of Art + Design).
While finishing my degree I've done some logo, website, and branding work for One Percent Hockey, The Athlete Factory, Calgary Health and Sports Performance, and The Kinsmen Club of Calgary Foundation.
There are many forms of communication, but numbers are universal. Maybe this is why I started in finance before figuring out what I wanted to do. With that original background in business I know the importance of research, discipline, and analytics; I've learned to apply these methods to my designs. Combining my skills in art and my methodical and number driven brain makes graphic design a natural fit. My focus in graphic design revolves around design as a way of thinking. When we can visually demonstrate what you're thinking, good design is achieved. Design is a great motivator and helps demonstrate information effectively and efficiently. Great design can change your perception.
In my spare time I can be found attending concerts, near a beach, or playing with my dogs.
