Mixed Media
The more time put into a piece, the more realistic it looks. However, while I like drawing and illustrating realistically, gestural and abstract drawing is the best mode for me to express form. I draw lines and shapes, focusing on texture, lighting, and shadows, thus creating depth rather than drawing a perceived image. I feel by drawing this way I can see an image from multiple perspectives. This is much the same way that I handle design. One has taught me the other.
Cutouts
I think cutouts really show how my process works. I cut and rip images from magazines and other print materials. I then start putting them together to create something new. Each piece is literally made up of small shapes and colours that form meaning when seen as a whole. We can see the shapes and colour, but our brain puts it all together to create an image.
